This poster was made for a hypocritical symphony show of the song An American in Paris by George Gershwin. The song was based on Gershwin's time visiting Paris during the Annees Folles, the Roaring 20’s as we call it in the States. I wanted to capture the fantastical nature of that time as well as what Paris would be like to an American.
This poster was made for my Design I class final. I was given the Zigzag chair which was designed by Gerrit Rietveld. Rietveld was part of the De Stijl movement which was a major inspiration for the poster. Using their principles of abstraction of form and color I complimented the simplicity of the zigzag chair. This simplicity and easy assembly was one of the main principles Rietveld focused on when designing his furniture.
